Colesburg Gravel Race – 1st Place!

Yes, that is right! First place for women in the short (24 mile) gravel race at Colesburg today. (The long was 42.9 miles – might try that one next year.) Aaaaaaannnnnddddd there were more lady racers than just me! I think 5 total. I’m really excited. It was a huge accomplishment for me. Dropped my time by 20 minutes to 2:11. Plus, last year, I really struggled to finish. This year I rode strong to the finish line. What makes me even feel better and stronger yet is that I did a 4 hour ride yesterday and was still able to ride the Colesburg hills today. Granted, I might have been able to walk some of them more quickly, but I kept pedaling. I rode my cyclocross bike this year which I think made some aspects of it easier. The climbing was harder though b/c the gears on my cross bike are tougher, but I was able to keep them turning. I might have been bolder on some of the descents with my mountain bike too. Alot of them were tougher b/c there wasn’t a good tire track anywhere. Some people said it was like riding on marbles. I agree.

Next up is Chequamegon on Sept 18. I’m doing the 40 mile one this year and am both excited and nervous about it. These last 2 days of riding though have boosted my confidence.
